Winnipeg, MB (January 29, 2019) – On Friday night, Aki Pihlaja was making a charge in Deadwood, South Dakota to claim the second consecutive Pro podium of his rookie season. Unfortunately, Aki clipped his skis on the last jump in the rhythm section causing a spectacular end-over-end flip that resulted in a red flag.
Twenty four hours later, Pihlaja and teammate Elias Ishoel launched their Jimmy John’s Ski-Doos into the lead of the round eight final, where Aki would go on to win his first ever Pro main event in North America. The victory was a milestone for Aki and BOSS Racing, who can now claim to be the only team with two winning Pro riders in the AMSOIL Championship Snocross series.
For championship leader Ishoel, the weekend was a mixed bag of results directly impacted buy bad luck. Ishoel was in a third place podium position before the red flag on Friday night but was incorrectly slotted deep in the field as race resumed from a single file restart.
